London Christmas Guide

London transforms into a beautiful Winter Wonderland at Christmas time with festive markets, ice skating rinks, twinkling lights and festive events around every corner.  To get you in the Christmas spirit, our King’s Cross hotel shares it's guide to London at the most festive time of the year...

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

Perhaps the most popular Christmas attraction, Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park is guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. The event gets bigger year after year with festive markets, pop up German pubs, ice rinks, rides and games. Winter Wonderland is open from 22nd November - 6th January.

Hogwarts in the snow

Experience the magical wizarding world of Harry Potter at Christmas, as Warner Bros Studios undergoes a massive makeover for ‘Hogwarts in the Snow’. Many of the iconic sets will be transformed such as The Great Hall which will be covered in shimmering silver, icicles and glistening snow. Hogwarts in the Snow starts on 17th November and comes to a close on 27th January.

Southbank Christmas markets

London isn’t short of fantastic festive markets to visit at Christmas time, from the vast Winter Wonderland markets to the buzzing Leicester Square. For us, the most picturesque markets are definitely on London’s Southbank with views of the London Eye, The River Thames and Houses of Parliament. Tuck into a bratwurst, sip on hot mulled wine and browse bespoke arts and crafts stalls underneath stunning twinkling Christmas lights.

Ice skating at Somerset House

No Christmas staycation is complete without a glide on the ice at one of the capital’s spectacular outdoor ice rinks, no matter what your skating abilities are! Many famous buildings including The Natural History Museum, Hampton Court Palace and Tower of London have incredible outdoor ice rinks, where you can admire the historic architecture of the iconic buildings. Our recommendation and perhaps the most popular ice rink is at Somerset House with the Edmond J. Safra Fountain courtyard serving as the stunning backdrop. The rink runs daytime sessions as well as Skate Lates under the stars, with fantastic music sets from top DJs. Skate at Somerset House runs from the 14th November right until the 13th January 2019.
